This vintage Wedgwood collector plate is entitled Early Morning Milk and was produced in England in 1991. Created from artwork by British artist Chris Howells, it was the first issue in Wedgwood’s Country Days series, which portrayed everyday rural community life from an earlier period.
The richly detailed scene shows a horse-drawn milk cart arriving in a traditional English village. Thatched cottages, timber-framed buildings, villagers, chickens and a small dog fill the composition, giving this decorative plate a warm and nostalgic country character. The soft greens, browns and golden tones make it particularly suitable for a traditional kitchen, cottage-inspired room or collection of British ceramics.
Wedgwood collector plate from the Country Days series
This Early Morning Milk plate was crafted in Wedgwood Fine Bone China by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Limited at Barlaston, Stoke-on-Trent. The reverse carries the official Wedgwood backstamp together with the production year, title, artist’s name and individual plate number.
The back identifies this example as plate number 1793F and records the Bradex reference 26-W90-43.1. Production was officially limited to a maximum of 55 firing days. This describes the length of the production period rather than a total edition of only 55 plates.
As a Chris Howells Country Days plate, it combines the recognised Wedgwood name with an attractive rural subject. It will appeal both to collectors looking for a specific issue and to buyers searching for a colourful bone china wall plate for decorative display.
