This antique Carlton Ware Lettuce & Tomato tray is a distinctive piece of early English decorative pottery dating to around 1925. Moulded in the form of a large green lettuce leaf, the design features deeply textured veins and two raised red tomatoes, creating the naturalistic appearance that became closely associated with Carlton Ware salad ware.
The underside carries the early W&R crown mark with “Stoke on Trent”, “Carlton Ware” and “Made in England”, together with the registered design number Rd No 716032. This Lettuce & Tomato tray design was registered in 1925, while the style of W&R crown backstamp is consistent with Carlton Ware production of the mid-1920s.

Condition
The tray is in good antique condition. The owner reports no cracks or breaks, and no major structural damage is apparent in the supplied photographs. Fine age-related glaze crazing is visible, particularly on the underside, together with minor marks and wear consistent with an approximately century-old piece of pottery.
The underside mark and registered design number remain clearly legible. Please examine all photographs closely, including the detailed base-mark image, as they form an important part of the condition description.
This is an attractive example for a Carlton Ware collection, a display of early twentieth-century English pottery or a vintage kitchenware collection. Its unusually naturalistic lettuce-leaf form and three-dimensional tomato decoration also give it strong decorative appeal beyond specialist Carlton Ware collecting.
