Vintage Chinese hand painted eggs presented as a matching pair inside their original-style wood and glass display case. Decorated with colourful birds, flowering branches, bamboo and traditional landscape-inspired details, this unusual decorative piece was made in China and most likely dates from the mid-to-late 20th century.

The two white egg-shaped ornaments are individually decorated with different scenes. One side features colourful birds among pink flowering branches, while other areas reveal bamboo, blossoms, foliage and a loosely painted landscape. The changing decoration around each egg makes the piece particularly attractive when viewed from different sides rather than only from the front.

The eggs are displayed together on a gathered golden-yellow fabric base inside a rectangular glazed case. The case has a deep reddish-burgundy frame and a darker raised base, creating a distinctive presentation associated with Chinese decorative export pieces produced during the second half of the 20th century.

A surviving paper label on the underside provides useful evidence for the origin of the piece. It is printed with the Chinese characters 中国制造 together with the English wording MADE IN CHINA and a red horse emblem. The label confirms Chinese manufacture, although no maker or workshop has been reliably identified from the available markings.

Comparable Chinese painted egg displays are often attributed to the 1960s and 1970s, although examples are also encountered from neighbouring decades. Based on the available evidence, this example is best described conservatively as mid-to-late 20th century, probably circa 1960s–1970s rather than assigning it an exact production year.

Similar decorative eggs from this period were often made using blown natural eggshells before being decorated. However, the exact material of these particular eggs has not been independently confirmed, so they are described here simply as decorative painted eggs.

Bird, Flower and Bamboo Decoration

The decoration is one of the strongest features of the set. The front displays small colourful birds surrounded by delicate pink flowering branches. Turning the case reveals further painted details including green bamboo, orange and pink blossoms, a yellow bird in flight and a monochrome landscape-style scene.

The white background of the eggs allows the brighter blue, yellow, orange, pink and green decoration to stand out clearly. Together with the warm golden fabric and dark red case, the piece has a distinctive vintage Chinese decorative appearance.

This attractive display would work well as a cabinet piece, shelf ornament or addition to a collection of Chinese and Asian decorative objects. It can also be viewed alongside other vintage items available from Hozy Vintage & Antique Finds.

Condition and Display Case

These vintage Chinese hand painted eggs are offered in good vintage condition consistent with their age. Both decorative eggs appear complete in the supplied photographs, with no obvious cracks or major losses visible.

The wooden or wood-based display frame and base show normal age-related surface wear, including minor marks and rubbing around some edges. The golden-yellow fabric lining also shows natural signs of age.

The glass has visible dust and soiling on its interior surface. This is internal dirt rather than significant damage to the glass. No obvious major crack or break to the glazing is visible in the supplied photographs. Cleaning may depend on whether the case can be safely opened without disturbing the delicate eggs.

As with any vintage item, please inspect all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
