Framed Still Life Watercolour – Signed and Dated 1960

The painting depicts a large cobalt-blue ornamental jar with elaborate floral decoration and gilt-coloured details. A traditional wooden longcase clock stands to its left, while a smaller blue lidded vessel and a colourful female figure complete the arrangement.

The objects are positioned on a reflective surface against softly painted curtains, creating an interesting contrast between their detailed decoration and the loose watercolour background.

The lower-left corner bears a signature reading Constance Sparling, accompanied by the date 1960.

Constance Sparling is a documented artist whose work appeared in the Royal Cambrian Academy’s 1939 exhibition catalogue. Her artistic activity is also recorded in historical material relating to Chipping Campden.

The artwork was previously sold as an original watercolour. Although the visible signature and date support its identification, independent authentication has not been undertaken.
